Thorverton 1sts 1-0 Beer Albion 1sts

Beer Albion's hopes of a top two finish in the Devon & Exeter Premier Division are fading after a 1-0 defeat at Thorverton on Saturday, writes Mike Adkin.

In a closely contested match in front of thirty travelling fans, there were few clear-cut chances, and with both set of players too often spending time disputing refereeing decisions instead of concentrating on their game. However, Thorverton made the most of their one real opportunity in the first half, getting behind the Beer defence down the right and with the subsequent cross despatched by Kieran Smith. Beer's best effort also came in the first 45 minutes, when a great strike by Tony Pinder was just tipped over the bar by the Thorverton keeper.

Despite the result, Beer remain third in the league, although with Kentisbeare breathing down their necks in fourth place, level on points with The Fishermen, but with an inferior goal difference and having played a game more. Beer will be looking to up their game for the derby match at home to Axminster 2nds this coming Saturday, kick off 3pm at The Furzebrake, with match sponsor to be The Barrel O' Beer.

Devon & Exeter League Division 2

Tipton St John 4-1 Beer Albion 2nd’s

After only one league defeat up to Christmas, 2022 has seen a dip in form for Beer Albion 2nd’s, losing a further four matches. The latest of these a disappointing 4-1 reversal at Tipton St John last Saturday, resulting in the loss of top spot in the league to Winkleigh. Beer were 4-0 down at the interval after probably their worse first half display of the season, to a side in the lower half of the league. An improved second half saw a consolation goal from Olly Paget, but the Fisherman's second string will need to up their game in the remaining three matches to finish in the top four.
