Seaton Town 1st’s 1-2 Beer Albion 2nd’s

Devon and Exeter League Division 2

Beer Albion 2nds made the short trip to local rivals Seaton 1st’s looking to make amends for the 4-2 defeat in the reverse fixture earlier this season writes Dan Jeeves.

In front of crowd of 170, the game started scrappily with little to split the teams. The first clear-cut chance of the game fell to Seaton, a goal-bound free-kick well saved by Beer keeper Leo Gribble.

The Fisherman did eventually take the lead when a Harry Lawrence corner was headed home by Ashley Driver. Beer continued to look threatening from corners, particularly through Ashley Driver’s presence in the box.

It was Seaton however who grabbed the equaliser after an excellent through ball was slotted home.

The second half was much the same, full of commitment but not a great deal of quality from both sides. Beer did however take the lead early in the half with a James Melville goal. Melville’s first attempt was well saved by the keeper but Ben Hemmens was able to recover the ball and pull it back for the veteran striker who made no mistake second time round.

The scoreline remained at 2-1 Beer giving the Fishermen their seventh league win of the season.

Next Saturday Beer 2nds are in league action at home to Tedburn St Mary’s 1st’s. Kick off is at 3 pm and the match sponsor will be Beer Fisheries Ltd.
