After defeating 2nd place North Molton by the odd goal last Saturday, Devon Football N&E league leaders Beer Albion 1st’s rounded off the perfect Easter weekend with another 1-0 win away at 3rd placed Appledore on Easter Monday.
In a fine team display against strong opposition, centre-back Charlie Ledger’s 70th minute strike was enough to secure the 3 points for the Fishermen. The goal came after Ashley Driver had been sent off reducing Beer to 10 men for the final half-hour.
Having been promoted from the Devon and Exeter Premier last season, this victory leaves Beer on the brink of winning the DFL N & E at the first time of asking. The Fishermen who remain unbeaten in the league need to win two out of their three remaining games to be sure of the title.
Next Saturday Beer travel to Topsham Town who have shown a recent improvement in their league form so the Fishermen will need to be at their best.
In Devon and Exeter Division 1, Beer Reserves gained 3 valuable points with a fine 3-1 win against Newtown Reserves. Goals from Reece Best, Jack Prior and Max Richardson secured the win.
Next Saturday the Fishermen’s 2nd’s travel to bottom-but-one Hatherleigh Town needing another good result to stay clear of the relegation zone.
